چکیده

In this publication, we describe a completely automated sample preparation workflow for the extraction and screening of multimycotoxin contamination in different food matrices (corn, wheat) by LC-MS/MS. The extraction methodology was performed using a GERSTEL Multi Purpose Sampler (MPS) 2XL followed by analysis with an AB SCIEX QTRAP 4500 system. The automated sample preparation workflow involved centrifugation, dispersive solid phase extraction (dSPE) and evaporative concentration, providing extraction efficiencies greater than 70% with relative standard deviations (RSD) less than 15% for most analytes.

Food mycotoxins survey and monitoring programs.

Traditionally, mycotoxin problems have come to our attention mainly because of outbreaks of animal diseases and in several instances human diseases and there are then related to a mycotoxin as the causative agent. Undoubtedly this will continue to be a very important means for uncovering mycotoxin problems. However, in recent years, now that practical, sensitive analytical methods have become a...

Quantitative analysis of mycotoxins in cereal foods by collision cell fragmentation-high-resolution mass spectrometry: performance and comparison with triple-stage quadrupole detection.

A liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) method for the simultaneous determination of aflatoxins (B(1), B(2), G(1), G(2)), ochratoxin A, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, T-2 and HT-2 toxins in wheat flour, barley flour and crisp bread was developed. Mycotoxin fragmentation patterns obtained by high-energy collision dissociation (HCD) were investigated to obtain quantitati...

Patulin Analysis: Sample Preparation Methodologies and Chromatographic Approaches

Patulin is a mycotoxin with carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic potential mainly produced by several species of Pennicillium, Aspergillus and Byssoclamys. This toxin has been found in fresh food such as fruits and vegetables, but may also be present in commercial apple juices and other food products. Food contamination with this toxin had led, over the years, to intense investigations relat...

A Review on Application of Microextraction Techniques for Analysis of Chemical Compounds and Metal Ions in Foodstuffs

Foodstuffs analysis is very important due to population growth and increasing consumer demand for safety and nutritional excellence. The Analysis of different compounds in foodstuffs is so difficult without using sample preparation techniques. Traditional techniques require large amounts of toxic organic solvents. As a result, they are not only expensive but also environmentally unfriendly and ...

Awareness and Prevalence of Mycotoxin Contamination in Selected Nigerian Fermented Foods

Fermented food samples (n = 191) including maize gruel (ogi), sorghum gruel (ogi-baba), melon seed (ogiri), locust bean (iru) and African oil bean seed (ugba) from Southwest Nigeria were quantified for 23 mycotoxins, including aflatoxin B₁ (AFB₁), fumonisin B₁ (FB₁), and sterigmatocystin (STE) using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The practices, perceived understanding and healt...
